This is the Surat Ayurvedic Hospital and School.  Like many university based hospitals in the US, this hospital trains future Ayurvedic Doctors.  Many of the pictures you will see is that of the medical school, outpatient clinic, and inpatient hospital.

 

FOUNDER OF THE SURAT AYURVEDIC HOSPITAL

ENTRANCE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY, AND PATHOLOGY

This is one building of the medical school. As will see there, training of the basic sciences are necessary for ayurvedic medicine. Students are train in the same subjects as allopathic students, but will have different courses on treatments and ayurvedic medications.

This is the tank that contains the cadaver.

This is a dissected cadaver. The preservative was very strong which burned my eyes and nose.

This is the pathology lab for the hospital. The hospital does have machines for basic labs such as CBC, U/A, and blood chemistries.

OUTPATIENT PHARMACY

In this picture, ayurvedic pharmacists are dispensing prescribed medication to outpatients that have just completed their visit with the doctor.

ROUNDING

This is a team that is doing table rounds for inpatients. There are four medical students and one attending.

OUTPATIENT CLINIC WAITING AREA

This is the waiting are for the outpatient clinic. There is one main holding area. Behind each curtain is a room for each subspecialty. Today there was ENT, colorectal surgery, and medicine outpatient clinics.

SURGERY TREATMENT

This patient is about to receive outpatient treatment for a fistula-in-ano. Click on the link for a detailed description of treatment and efficacy of the treatment. My tour guide stated of all Ayurvedic medications, this was the best studied which shows good outcomes using evidence based medicine.

This patient is having a consultation with the doctor in the ENT clinic. There are two staff doctors and medical students observing.

This is a timeline of the history of ayurvedic medicine. The god of ayurvedic medicine is in the middle.

This is the medicine outpatient clinic. There are two patients being visited at the same time. Around the perimeter, sitting on benches, are the next patients to be seen.

These are the OB nurses in the OB ward. There were no patients at the time I visited.

WOMEN'S WARD

The hospital has two large wards for general problems separated by sex. This is the women’s ward. In the middle is our tour guide.

Radiology is used in ayurvedic medicine when indicated. The hospital has an x-ray machine.

The Ayurvedic University is a big horseshoe structure with the hospital on one arm, teaching buildings and dorms make up the other arm, and the last arm being admin buildings.
