KST was accidently discovered by Tedd Koren, D.C. in 2003 as a combination of Stressology, DNFT (directional non-force technique), and the use of ArthroStim™ to treat his own sciatica and chronic symptoms related to an accident, as well as his wife’s migraines. He found that with this technique he could analyze his patients more thoroughly and the adjustments would hold for longer periods of time.  The technique is an “incredibly specific analysis and adjusting technique that can be applied to any part of the body.”  The Koren Seminars Website claims the technique can be used to treat anything from blurred vision to musculoskeletal complaints.

Dr. Koren is head of Koren publications, a large provider of learning materials and patient education in the area of chiropractics.  He now teaches seminars on his technique.  He has stated that the reasons chiropractors give to adopt KST are:

1. the doctor is physically damaged from performing classic chiropractics

2. the doctor has chronic issues not resolved by other techniques

3. boredom

4. the doctor wants a better technique to use in his practice

5. opportunity to learn and grow

Other purported benefits are that a chiropractor can adjust himself, it requires less large/expensive equipment (a benefit for new/struggling chiropractors), and can be used in almost any position. Other benefits for the chiropractor are that it does not require any radiographic examination.
