Macrobiotics is a philosophy that revolves around a diet composed mostly of whole grains (especially brown rice) with smaller amounts of locally grown vegetables and very limited amounts of meats.  Additionally, an emphasis is put on avoiding heavily processed or preserved foods as well as thorough chewing to avoid overeating.  Practitioners of the macrobiotic lifestyle claim that it reduces the risk of cancer and can even cure cases of cancer that are considered untreatable by Western medicine.
