*Children & Adolescents spent $127 million on CAM Visits and $22 million on remedies in 1996

*Certain Pediatric Population utilize CAM therapies more (~70% of Children with Special Health Care Needs & homeless Adolescents)

  • Limited conventional medicine therapies tends to lead to CAM therapy use.

  • The pediatric populations that use CAM therapies the most include children with asthma, ADHD, autism, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease, and JRA.

* Most pediatric patients who use CAM therapies also continue to see their regular physician

* The majority of patients (or parent's of patients) using CAM therapies did not tell their primary care doctor about it.
