There has been relatively little research done on specific benefits of pet-facilitated therapy. Within recent years, however, a few studies have explored its potential cardiovascular benefits. There is also a small number of studies on the role of animals in mental health, pain control, and prevention of asthma and allergic rhinitis. Take a look at the evidence for/against pet-facilitated therapy for each of the topics above.
