Talk with your health-care provider about the risks and benefits of vaccinations if you child has any of the following conditions.  Although not absolute contraindications to vaccination, careful consideration of the individual circumstances must be made.

Conditions where children potentially should not receive vaccinations:

  •  Immunodeficiency

  • Transplantation

  • Leukemia or lymphoma

  • High-dose corticosteroids

  • HIV/AIDS

  • Immunocompromised family member

  • Recently received blood products or IVIG

  • Severe gastroenteritis (severe vomiting or diarrhea)

  • High fever

  • Prior severe reaction to the vaccine

  • Allergy to any component in the vaccine

*Immunocompromised patients or family members potentially should be cautious about receiving live vaccinations such as measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox), and rotavirus because of the potential risk of it infecting the immunosuppressed member.  Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of such treatment and make sure your doctor is aware if there are any immunosuppressed members in you household.
