A large population (as high as 65% among black subjects, poor subjects, less educated parents, and children with persistent symptoms) exists that uses complementary medicines adjunctively to minimize the need for conventional therapies and hence avoid the profound side-effect profiles. The complementary treatments for asthma fall into 1 of 4 main categories: herbal, vitamins and minerals, fatty acids, and probiotics. The alternative remedies for asthma consist of ethnic therapies, lifestyle therapies and biomechanical/bioenergetic therapies
