Conventional asthma therapy includes both minimizing chronic symptoms and aborting exacerbations.  Pharmacologic agents for long term control include corticosteroids (both inhaled and systemic), long acting bronchodilators, leukotriene modifiers, desensitization therapy and assorted anti-inflammatory preparations.  Agents for quick relief include beta-adrenergic agonists, anticholinergics, phosphodiesterase inhibitors, glucocorticoids, and antimicrobials.
