Mitochondrial Encephalopathies
Rare conditions
including: mitochondrial encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and
stroke-like episodes (MELAS) syndrome, Kearns-Sayre syndrome, and
myoclonus epilepsy with ragged-red fibers (MERRF) syndrome have some
improvement with CoQ10. Multiple
studies involving 8-44 patients demonstrated benefit to the patients
maximized after 6 or more months of therapy.
UbiQGel was actually granted orphan drug status by the FDA for
treatment of mitochondrial cytopathies based on these trials.
Diabetes
Mul tiple
trials involving 100-200 mg daily in type 1 and type 2 DM patients
found none or very modest improvements in glycemic controls.
