As with almost all "supplements" and therapies outlined on this
web page, more research is needed before any major conclusions can be drawn.
Specifically, randomized, double-blinded studies need to be conducted in humans.
A few of these have been done, but they are often small and do not control for
for important variables.
There are certainly some promising early results, and these will
hopefully prompt further investigation. Along with these investigations,
specific studies on dosages and toxicities need to be performed. This is
especially true in terms of hormone-sensitive cancers.
The authors of this page have not been definitively convinced of
DHEA's efficacy. This does not mean, however, that there is not potential
for studies which do show this. For the time being, we encourage all
consumers of DHEA to exercise caution and pay close attention to any new
literature. |
