The majority of traditional physicians use the JNC 7 report, released in 2003, as the major guideline in the treatment of hypertension. In this report, the committee describes an evidence-based treatment algorithm. The first step the committee mentions for every patient is lifestyle modifications. These five modifications could be classified as alternative to traditional medicine because they are therapies that are not widely taught in medical schools nor generally available in hospitals.
