Some current recommendations that show promise in decreasing the risk of becoming a victim of prostate cancer:

.)  Increase intake of lycopene rich foods such as tomatoes.  The processed forms subject to cooking and exposure to fat appear to increase absorption by the body.  Two glasses of tomato juice per day should provide sufficient lycopene, though there are currently no RDI recommendations.  Salsa, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, juice as well as other fruits high in lycopene are also beneficial

.)  As with other cancers, vitamin E supplementation has shown promise in helping prevent prostate cancer.  The aim should be at intake of at least 100 IU per day.

.)  Selenium supplementation has shown great promise in decreasing prostate cancer.  Clark et al. reported a decreased incidence of prostate cancer in a double blind cancer prevention trial using selenium supplementation.  200 mcg should be taken, but anyone taking this should be aware of potential toxicity due to selenium

.)  Not suprisingly, diets low in animal fat and low in red meat appear to lower a man's risk of prostate cancer.  In addition, following such a diet will have the added benefit of cardioprotection.
