Many claims are made regarding the benefits due to the application of permanent  magnets.  Some of the claims are listed below. Properly applied permanent magnets:
  • Increase the blood flow to the area to which they are applied.
  • Reduce pain
  • Decrease inflammation
  • Speed recovery of bone fractures
  • Shrink tumors or cure cancer

Magnetic devices are available in a variety of products. Most of them contain small disks of ferrite or rare earth magnets arranged differently according to the philosophy of the manufacturer. "Multipolar" devices have magnets arranged in an alternating north/south pattern, whereas "unipolar" magnets have only one pole facing the patient. The magnets may be arranged in circular, triangular, or checkerboard patterns. Some manufacturers claim that only south-seeking poles facing the body, since south-seeking poles have a calming effect on tissues (therefore would reduce inflammation, infection, pain, and would shrink tumors). Evidently, in the southern hemisphere, north-seeking poles are used instead to calm tissues.

Products which are available range from magnetic pads (shoe insoles, small Band-Aid-like patches, or wraps which may be applied to virtually any part of the body) to magnetic jewelery, to magnetic bed accessories
