Definition:

    Massage therapy is the manipulation of the body's soft tissues for the purpose of normalizing those tissues.  Massage is a manual technique that includes applying movement and fixed pressure to the body. 

 

Massage therapy has affects on the whole body:

  •     Musculoskeletal System:    decreases muscular tension or flaccidity

  •     Circulatory System:    increases blood flow

  •     Lymphatic System:    increases flow of lymph

  •     Nervous System:    stimulates or sedates

  •     Skin:    enhances tissue healing
