| As for coming to a
conclusion on these matter, the fact is there is none yet.
The answer to these problems usually lay in the land of compromise were
each side has given and taken just the right amount so that they feel they’ve
ended up somewhere near where they started.
The question is not whether marijuana works as a medication.
That has been proven already.
The issue becomes: Can marijuana can work as a medication in our society.
Every scientific discovery
is born into a vast sea of society and politics.
In our current society, marijuana has become the devil himself.
For him to find entrance into our society as a peer requires him not just
to be a fine upstanding citizen but a veritable saint.
Is marijuana that saint though? Is marijuana effective enough when compared to conventional treatments to overcome the
various biological harmful effects and social implications? From the
research I have seen, I would have to conclude that the answer is no.
Presently, there are many other drug regiments that can do just as good of a job
if not better than marijuana. Not only can they do the job they do it
without the social and legal stigmata associated with being pothead. I
stress presently, because today's medicine however advanced and modern is still
far from perfect.
Modern medicine's flaws lie in the "11%" of research. When a
drug is found to be 89% effective, it is considered a success. The
researchers rejoice, the pharmaceutical companies make their trillions,
physicians feel empowered again, and 89% of the population stays happy and
healthy. Whatever happens to the other 11%? They are an accepted
casualty. However, it is the 11% that suffer. It is that 11% that
have made the intensive care unit a permanent home. They have been left
there on the ventilator, left to wonder why they could not be part of
other 89%. I believe that this is the role of marijuana and other
alternative therapies. When traditional routes have failed,
alternative medicine provides another route that offers at least some kind of
hope for health. For this 11%, marijuana is a medical
necessity.
