Childbirth
Hanser, Larson, and O’Connell(1983) showed a subjective decrease in pain
response in women who used music therapy during labor.
Durhan and Collins (1986) showed no significant difference in medication use
in women who used music therapy versus those who did not.
Kershner and Schenck (1991) found that women required less medication during
labor with music therapy.
Although these results are limited and contradictory, it seems an unobtrusive
way for the parents to work together prior to birth and may be of
benefit.
