Zinc and B-Lymphocytes

B-lymphocytes play a vital role in the
body’s specific immune system. B-cells
mature into plasma cells and are responsible for the production of
antibodies, which primarily play a role in bacterial infections.
Decreased amounts of zinc are associated with inhibited
B-lymphocyte development in the bone marrow.
Zinc is also required for the mitogenic and cytokine response to
lipopolysaccharides, which is important in warding off the infection of
Gram negative bacteria. |
