Zinc and the Immune System
Zinc plays a very important role
within the immune system. A
zinc deficiency can lead to a decreased immune status; however, too much
zinc can also be toxic to the
immune system’s function.
Zinc plays an important role in the
nonspecific immune system including the barrier,
neutrophils, macrophages/monocytes,
and natural killer cells.
Zinc also plays and important role in
the specific immune system including
T-lymphocytes
and B-lymphocytes.
