Used Today: Coltsfoot is still used to treat respiratory disorders ranging from asthma to bronchitis. What You Should Know: The pyrrolizidine alkaloids are considered teratogens. They have been shown to induce hepatotoxicity in the developing fetuses of mice. There is also a case report of hepatic veno-occlusive disease with subsequent infant death associated with maternal ingestion of pyrrolizidinealkaloid-containing herbal tea.The use of Coltsfoot during pregnancy is absolutely contraindicated. |
