Lady's Mantle AKA: Bear's Foot, Leontopodium, Lion's Foot, Nine Hookd, Stellaria Species: Alchenulla mollis, Alchenulla vulgaris Active Chemical Components: tannins (ellegaitannins and quercetin), glycosides, and flavenoids Traditionally Used: Lady's Mantle was traditionally used to treat dysmenorrhea and menopausal complaints. Used Today: Lady's Mantle reportedly has astringent properties secondary to the tanin component. It is used as a healing promoter, to treat GI complaints including diarrhea, as a coagulant, and to decrease menstrual bleeding. What you should know: Lady's Mantle has been shown to stimulate uterine contractions and may lead to SAB or preterm labor and prematurity if taken during pregnancy. Its use is not recommended.
