Lady's Mantle

AKA: Bear's Foot, Leontopodium, Lion's Foot, Nine Hookd, Stellaria

Species: Alchenulla mollis, Alchenulla vulgaris

Active Chemical Components: tannins (ellegaitannins and quercetin), glycosides, and flavenoids

Traditionally Used:  Lady's Mantle was traditionally used to treat dysmenorrhea and menopausal complaints.

Used Today: Lady's Mantle reportedly has astringent properties secondary to the tanin component.  It is used as a healing promoter, to treat GI complaints including diarrhea, as a coagulant, and to decrease menstrual bleeding.

What you should know: Lady's Mantle has been shown to stimulate uterine contractions and may lead to SAB or preterm labor and prematurity if taken during pregnancy.  Its use is not recommended.
