Pleurisy Root AKA: Butterfly Weed, Canada Root, Orange Milkweed Species: Asclepias tuberosa Active Chemical Components: cardioactive steroids (cardenoloids) Traditionally Used: Pleurisy Root has been traditionally used as an expectorant in a variety of respiratory ailments. Used Today: Today, Pleurisy Root is used to treat cough and as an analgesic. It is also used to treat a variety of uterine disorders. What you should know: Pleurisy Root has been shown to have uterine stimulant effects in vivo and its use during pregnancy may lead to SAB or preterm labor with prematurity. Its use is not recommended.
