Uses Today: Sassafras is a common addition to various beverages. It is used as a home remedy for various ailments. What you should know: Safrole, the main component of sassafras, crosses the placenta and acts as a teratogen. In studies, safrole administration to pregnant rats resulted in renal epithelial tumors in the offspring. Safrole has also been linked to IUGR. Its use during pregnancy is contraindicated. |
