AKA: Bloodwort, Gordaldo, Milfoil, Nosebleed, Old Man's Pepper, Sanguinary, Soldier's Woundwort, Stanchgrass, Thousandleaf Species: Achillea millefolium Active Chemical Component: sesquiterpene lactones, tannins, peroxides Traditionally Used: Yarrow has been traditionally used to treat wounds and staunch bleeding. Uses Today: Yarrow is used for its reported anti-inflammatory properties in the treatment of various wounds. It is also used as an expectorant and to treat a variety of upper respiratory infections. Yarrow is also used to decrease blood flow in a variety of bleeding disorders, including abnormal uterine bleeding. What you should know: Yarrow has mild emmenagogue effects and acts as an abortifacient and may lead to SAB if consumed during pregnancy. Its use is not recommended.
