  •  Do not use Valerian if:

    •  You have a liver disease

    •  You are pregnant or nursing

    •  You are driving or operating heavy machinery

 

  • Be aware that valerian’s safety and effectiveness in children are unknown

 

  • Do not combine Valerian with:

    •  Alcohol

    •  Antabuse

    •  Barbiturates

    •  Benzodiazepines  (Xanax, Valium, Klonipin)

    •  Substances with a sedating effect such as antihistamines   

    •  Certain antidepressants

    •  Herbs with sedating properties such as St. John’s wort, Kava, goldenseal, ginseng, SAMe, L-tryptophan, German chamomile, melatonin, yerba mansa

     

  • If you are taking any medications, please consult with your prescribing physician before taking valerian. 

 

  • Valerian may inhibit the cytochrome P-450 enzyme.  This increases the drug levels in the blood of lovastatin, ketaconazole, itraconazole, Allegra, triazolam, and certain chemotherapeutic agents.
