A brief patient history is provided below:
-
Infection in left thumb four months ago, self
treated with drainage.
-
A few days later, developed severe right
elbow swelling.
-
The elbow was warm to the touch.
-
X-rays reveled no joint destruction.
-
Diagnosed with septic bursitis by a
Rheumatologist.
-
High dose Ibuprofen, oral antibiotics, and
joint aspiration daily for 7 to 10 days.
-
Aspirated joint fluid, after being treated
with antibiotics, did not show microorganisms.
-
Cortisone injection into the joint dramatically
deceased the swelling.
-
Four months later, however, the elbow remains mildly
painful, with occasional "jolts" of pain if bumped, and has a
blue discoloration on the lateral surface with "lumps" under the skin.
